Ben and Michelle Godard

Posted on: Dec 13, 2011

Ben and Michelle want to thank everyone for praying for the work there in China. With the economy the way it is in America, and steady downfall of the American dollar and the inflation of all the China goods; they are being squeezed from both sides. They have been very blessed at the orphanage with a nice big yard. To help save some money they are trying to use the yard in the most efficient way by starting a garden. When they spoke to the children about starting a garden, they were very excited and all of them wanted to give a helping hand. They had to pull weeds, break the dirt up with a hoe and shovel, pick up all the rock and debris and plant the vegetables. They hope to save money by growing carrots, lettuce, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, and more. The other thing they tried to do this year was raise chickens and save on the cost of eggs. They admit this has been much harder of a task than originally thought. Their cook, wanting to help and brought chickens, but unfortunately the person who sold her the chicks told her they were hens but they all turned out to be roosters. Thankfully a good friend traded with them. After a lot of effort protecting the remaining chickens from their dog, they are successfully getting 3-4 eggs a day.
